baby deedee

November 19, 2016 by Abby Thome

baby deedee

This is a sponsored post in collaboration with baby deedee.  We received product to review and love it so much! All opinions are 100% ours.
img_6942

Max is our third baby, and waiting 5 years in between pregnancies wiped nearly every drop of baby gear I had.  Friends and family recommended SO many new things that I never had before with my older two boys, and it quickly became really overwhelming to figure out what I really needed and what I did not.

There was one mistake in particular I knew I should not repeat with this new babe.  Buying WAY to many clothes.  We had bags upon bags of clothes left over from Brody and Owen.  Many of which were hardly worn once by the time the grew onto the next size.  I knew with Max I wanted minimal pieces, ones that washed well and could be worn over and over again.  That way nothing went to waste.

Bedtime was proving to be tricky for us in the wardrobe department.

We could not find the right pajamas that would keep Max warm at night (safely warm) and comfortable all at the same time.

Basic footie-sleepers were not doing the trick.  I would have to double layer his pajamas with a onesie underneath and he would still wake up with those icy little piggy toes kicking during his first bottle in the morning.  It is equally important to keep your baby cool and warm at the same time during the night.  Fleece pajamas would make him sweat, so purchasing those were a complete waste.

I came across baby deedee on Facebook  (<– follow them here!) and it was literally an answer to my prayers.  Baby deedee makes so many amazing outfits for your little one to wear, but I was aching to try out their sleepsie quilted.

img_6924

These are the mother load of all baby pajamas! They are made with jersey cotton,  quilted and completely breathable!

I cannot rave about these enough.  As you can see by Max’s face – he’s digging it too.

img_6931

Back to when I was talking about less is more for baby clothes, this is exactly where my point is proven.  Buy one, or two of these and you are set.  They wash extremely well and are literally all you need for the colder crib nights.   Quality over quantity folks!

Oh! And I nearly forgot an amazing feature! They have an additional zipper around the legs to make changing midnight diapers a breeze!

img_6969

(Like the spit up on his left leg? Sweet boy is a drooling master right now!)

Baby deedee offers so many quality, gorgeous well made pieces for your little love …

unknown-3

Their design is so intentional, so well thought through.  The array of pajamas ranges from light weight, footless, short sleeve etc.  Stroller blankets, which they sent one as well and Max will not let go of it! Bedding, sleep sacks and more!

So whether you are a mama-to-be, attending a baby shower, or visiting a new mommy, check out  baby deedee for the perfect gift!

And it is your lucky day Thome Home readers, baby deedee gave us an exclusive 20% off discount to share with you all!

I’ll be adding more pajamas and a blanket to my shopping cart tonight!

Cinnamon Roll Pie Crust Bites

Cinnamon Roll Pie Crust Bites

unnamed-207

Cinnamon roll pie crust bites will become your go to treat when you’re in a pinch and do not have time to run to the store!  Yesterday I found myself staring at store-bought pie crust in my fridge.  My intention was to make quiche this week, but with Max waking up 10x for the past 3 nights (teething) I wanted nothing more than something sweet to pick me up.

So move over quiche, and say hello to these little cuties that kids and adults will not be able to keep their hands off of.

All you need :

Store bought pie crust, I use Immaculate Baking Company brand.  Cinnamon + Sugar.  Powdered Sugar, water and a drop of vanilla.

Unroll the pie crust after it has set out a room temperature for 20 minutes.  Cover the circle of pie dough with sugar and cinnamon and tightly roll the pie crust right back up.  Slice 1/4″ cookie slices and place on a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Bake at 325* for 10-15 minutes, or until the bottoms are just golden brown.

One they have cooled, in a small bowl, mix together 1 cup of powdered sugar a few teaspoons of water and a drop of vanilla.  Mix well, and drizzle over the cinnamon roll bites.

The simplicity of this recipe makes it a great opportunity to have the little ones jump in the kitchen and make them on their own! Got last-minute guests? These are perfect! Or if you’re looking for a cinch of a holiday cookie to share with loved ones.

Can you even handle their bite-size cuteness?? They are nearly to cute to eat, nearly.

Next time you are at the grocery store, grab pie crust! You will be glad you have it on hand when you need to whip up something sweet with little to no effort!

Balance is Bull.

Balance is Bull.

unnamed-205

While things may have been quiet on the blog front the past two weeks, it has been far from quiet on the home front.  Raising 3 little boys is no joke –  You think the newborn stage is tough, and then the toddler stage rolls in, and then they have their own lives and schedules and school projects to tend to – it’s exhausting! I love chatting with fellow moms that have kids of all different ages, because no matter how far apart our little ones are, we share one thing in common.  We are all balancing everything the best we can.  And balance is bullsh*t, and motherhood is madness.  So let us all just raise our glasses and give one another a giant virtual high-five, because we as parents are super heroes.

Am I right?

Each day I wake up with an array of duties on my agenda.  As optimistic as I can feel after waking up 3x with Max, and having the boys in my face at 5:50am I wake up with the best intentions. Somehow, some way, the kids will cooperate!  Max will nap longer than his usual 15 minutes spurts, I won’t get a phonecall from the school nurse and have to pop in and the 3 errands I have to run will not take 3x as long.  I will dominate my day like the momma beast that I am.

And then my stomach growls –  it is 3:40, I realize I have not eaten lunch and it is time to pick up Brody so that means when I get back I feed Max, get dinner ready, feed the kiddos, skip my dinner for getting Max in bed and munch on crumbs until I shower and get all the kids to sleep with Dan.  By the time I sit down to eat and do my work I am pooped and my tank is at zero.

Folks, as parents, it is pretty darn hard to put yourself first – in any way honestly.

Because of that it has shown on the blog the past two weeks.  I am embarrassingly so behind on deadlines.  Life has pulled me into a major wedgie.

I feel torn, as my blog is a huge part of my life, but my family comes first.

In these slow weeks Dan and I have finalized some much-needed items.  I think down time with social media is essential to filling up your tank again.  So yes, every 4 or so months you may hear crickets around here, but know that we are pulling up sleeves and getting to work on SO many exciting adventures.   Our plans for 2017 have me giddy, and things are flowing into a fantastic direction.  We have huge changes happening in the new year, and we couldn’t be more excited to share them with you guys! But do not fear, the next few weeks will be packed with holiday treats, our bathroom renovation (yes, it is finally down to studs!) and family stories to make you chuckle.

Can I ask you something though? Share this blog with your friends and family – with all of our changes happening we are sOoOo excited to have you guys on our journey.   So share it on your facebook, instagram account or just simply word of mouth.

Spread the love, ya’ll xoxo.

Halloween 2016

Halloween 2016

unnamed-201

Each holiday I swear it just cannot get any better.  And then this year rolls around, and we have this amazing little chub of a babe Max by our side, and gosh, it gets THAT much better.

img_6893

We all love candy, but my gosh do we love each other.  Is that to candy-corny? 🙂 It is true though.  One thing I truly love about Halloween is that it starts the countdown to two of my ultimate holidays – Thanksgiving and Christmas.

img_6885

Max rocked this nemo costume I had in 2009 (ahhh) for Brody.  Still in mint condition, and still so fluffy the little pudge couldn’t sit upright for more than 3 seconds without falling backwards.  B and O tackled trick-or-treating like a champ and now we have SO much candy it hurts.

Perhaps I’ll brainstorm some sweet treats that use up these cavity causing candies that are sitting on my table!

unnamed-203

I hope your night was just as sweet as ours!

Spooky Dirt Treat Cups

Spooky Dirt Treat Cups

img_6858

Boo!

Halloween is just days away, and while I am alllll about the kiddos getting dressed up and going door to door I pretty much despise everything else about Halloween.  I know, I’m awful.  It comes down to simply this — forget the gore, the horror, and the blood shed costumes and I am all in.  I enjoy the cute, silly, googly-eyed side of Halloween.  I guess I’m a scaredy pants 3-year-old trapped in a 30 year olds body – everything scares me!

I wanted to modernize a classic dessert that the kids, along with the parents would scoop right up with excitement.

img_6853

Boo!!

These spooky dirt cups are affectionately known as “dirt” or “oreo dirt” you can find thousands of recipes online, all pretty much the same.  I love serving these in individual cups top with a marshmallow peep.  Perfect for little hands and portion control for those that care, anyone care? I don’t! Have at it folks!

img_6856

The recipe is as follows:

With a handheld mixer: 1/4 cup room temperature butter + 1 package softened cream cheese + 1 cup powdered sugar

Once that is incorporated, add in 3 1/2 cups of milk + 2 packages of Vanilla Instant Pudding mix

Once that is fully mixed, fold in (1) 12oz container of Cool Whip.  (It is in the freezer section, have it thaw out in the fridge)

Let the pudding mix set up for about 3-5 minutes

Scoop the filling into a gallon size bag – set aside

In another gallon bag – crush up an entire box of oreos.  Reserve 1 for each of the bottom of the cup!

Pipe the filling in thirds – filling : crushed oreo : filling : crushed oreo ….

Place a darling little ghost on top and let set up in the fridge for at least an hour prior to serving!

Such a cute treat for a Halloween party!

Our Job.

October 25, 2016 by Abby Thome

Our Job.

I always wanted to be a mom.  In 7th grade we had a finance project where we had to purchase our dream car and figure out the payments and such and I picked a mini van.  It was just in my blood, and I could not wait for the day to be blessed with little ones.  Fast forward to being a mommy of three boys today, and the reality is that it is the hardest job ever.

Legit – the patience, the love, the heartache, the fear … it can all swirl around you in just a 24 hour period.

unnamed-199

Today, I picked up Owen from school.  He was giddy and ran his classic sprint-jump into my arms.  He buckled himself up, and of course I asked how school was and what did he learn today.

Owen :”We did lockdown drill again, Mom”

Me: “Oh, what do you do for that?” (playing dumb)

Owen: “The kids have to hide under the bean bags, not the table or chairs where you see us, under a bag.  And some kids didn’t listen this time.”

Me: “Well, good job listening!”

I had to switch subjects quickly….

My gut was spiraled together.  I know I cannot be naive, that this is a necessary practice in every single school across the U.S.  I guess it was that this was the 6x I heard about this drill so far this school year.  To roll back a few decades, gosh, I think we practiced a fire drill and tornado drill.  Heads were not accounted for when you walked out the school doors the second the bell rang.  Parents didn’t worry when their little ones walked to school and didn’t get a “text” to say they got there safe.  And here we are, in a day where kindergarteners are practicing lockdown drills on a regular basis.

Does he understand the extreme meaning behind it all? I don’t think so.  But it got me so choked up as we drove home, picturing my little boy having to practice scenarios such as that.

That this is the day we live in.

unnamed-194

How do we keep our kids innocent, yet well-informed? To help them understand the good and evil that exists in this world.  And even in a place (school) where they should feel 110% safe, that unfortunately in today’s world bad things can happen.

To understand their limits these days and yet feel free enough to be a kid without a worry in the world – it is a privilege that has been stripped from our kids.

For goodness sake it pisses me off –

But we must not live in hate, or fear, or stop doing things we love to do in fear of the worse.

For now, let them be little – that is what we owe them.  A chance at the childhood we all had.  A chance to be so sweetly innocent with their heads in the clouds –

Let them run into your arms when you pick them up for school. Wrap them up tight and let them know how much you love them so.

After all is said it done, it is OUR job as parents to raise them up right.  To teach our children to be packed full of compassion. This is our shot folks to create a better day in years to come.

Let’s take that job seriously.

Fried Mac n’ Cheese Bites

October 20, 2016 by Abby Thome

Fried Mac n’ Cheese Bites

So I did it again.  I made sure to not sit and watch another important game for Cleveland, because if you haven’t heard me say it before, every time I watch a serious game – they lose.  And well, it worked.  The Tribe is going to the World Series, and for sports freaks like my husband and boys, I guess that is a big deal.  You know me, I’d rather be in the kitchen whipping up some delicious treats to anyone willing to come over and smash with me.

That’s exactly what I did yesterday, I was set to make 3 new appetizers, and made it to 2.  Which, while bouncing a teething 5 month old on my hip turned out to be quite the accomplishment.

Say Hi Maxi ….

img_6832

Very rarely do we fry food around here – come to think of it, I only do it if I am making a killer app for a sporting game.  You know those little triangles of mac and cheese goodness you can get at your local bar? I was determined to make them from scratch(ish), attempting to create a simple recipe that I would want to actually make again.  This recipe is a cinch because you take a massive shortcut using boxed mac n’ cheese.  This recipe …  I did it.  And folks, I killed it.

img_6843

These mac and cheese bites turned out awesome — we topped each bite with jalapeno because who doesn’t love a bit of heat?

The best part about this recipe is that you can prep 90% of it the night before.  I’m going to break this down for you SOooOo SIMPLY.

You will need:

3 boxes Annies Organic Mac and Cheese Aged Cheddar Shells

1 cup half + half

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1/2 cup sour cream

1 tsp garlic powder

pinch of pepper + salt

For breading : flour, 3 eggs, panko bread crumbs

Let’s cook!

As instructed on the box, cook 3 boxes of the mac n’ cheese.  Drain the pasta, and set aside.  In the same pot, on low heat, pour in the half + half, cheddar cheese and seasoning.  Keep stirring until the cheese has melted, and then stir in the sour cream.

Add the pasta shells into the sauce, and stir until each noodle is coated and happy.

On a baking sheet covered with parchment paper, pour the mac n’ cheese in an even layer – pat down with your hands and place in the fridge until cooled completely.  (2 hours)

You can cover with clear wrap and leave this in the fridge over night!

Once ready to cook, using a small circular cookie cutter, cut out your mac n’ cheese bites.  Just like assembling a dredging station for breaded chicken, you will do the same for these ….

FLOUR (season with a bit of garlic powder s+p) ……. EGG ……. PANKO BREAD CRUMBS.

Dunk each bite in that order and set aside.  Warm up 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a skillet on medium heat.  Place the bites in, and flip once bottom is golden brown.  Once the top has a chance to brown, take out onto a paper towel lined baking sheet and sprinkle with kosher salt.

To serve : Place a few jalapeno on top for heat.  Or keep some plain for the kiddos!

img_6842Your friends and family will stop going to the bars to watch the game and just roll to your house if you start making these! We polished off the night with these amazing mini chicken sandwiches which of course I want to tweek a bit.  So keep an eye out for that recipe next week!

C’mon sports fans – whether you’re a tailgater, couch potato, or cook for the fans, make these and it’ll be a win for sure.

Go Tribe!

SpongeBob SquarePants for Halloween!

October 19, 2016 by Abby Thome

SpongeBob SquarePants for Halloween!

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Nickelodeon and Party City. All opinions are 100% mine.

Mom’s and Dad’s, Aunt’s and Uncle’s, neighbors all around – get ready – Halloween is coming quickly! Remember the anticipation as a child? The excitement would build for weeks as you changed your mind 10x over for the perfect Halloween costume? The big night would come, you would wait until the clock struck 6:00pm and out the door you would go.  With one goal in mind – get as much candy as possible, in as little time possible.  Always look for the light on kiddos! I remember that so clearly.  Don’t even bother knocking on a door thats completely shut, or that has its front porch light off.  They don’t want to be bothered, even worse, you’d get tossed a penny.

My boys have always loved Halloween.  Gone are the years of making the costume decisions for them.  They have their very own personalities to dress, whether we like it or not.  Thankfully, they have such a good sense of humor and are far from picking out the “scary stuff”.

So, if you are in the same spot I am, with kids having SO many decisions to make.  Making it simple go to ….

Party City

Brody and Owen had an absolute riot running through the store.  Staring for nearly 10 minutes just gawking at the wall of costumes, using their imaginations to picture themselves in each one.

It was a total one stop shop, costumes, candy buckets, and treats to pass out (aka, eat on the way home!)

Check out our experience:

You’ll have one foot out the door and on your way to your local Party City too!

What I am loving lately …

October 18, 2016 by Abby Thome

What I am loving lately …

Were you tossing and turning last night in your bed?? Wondering “what is Abby into lately?” If you must know, please don’t beg, I’ll just tell you –

Last month I finished this book, by the one and only Kimberly Paisley.  For those of you saying, “Who is that?” My gosh, she’s only the amazing lady from Father of the Bride (my favorite movie of all time) and the wife to Brad Paisley.  She writes about her experience as her mother was diagnosed with rare form of dementia.  My grandmother had dementia, and I can say this book was touching, uplifting, and so well written.   So if you know of anyone experiencing a loved one going through a situation such as this, it is a must read.

41ka-bvpmkl-_sx328_bo1204203200_

Pick it up on Amazon, HERE.

If you’ve been here a while, I’m not shy to say that Dan and I love our t.v.  We are that sick old couple who loves to get cozy with a glass of wine and dark chocolate pretzel thins and just rip through all of our recordings.  It’s the silence, it’s the laughter, it’s the mindless hours that just unwind us from a crazy day.  The two shows we are just ga-ga over right now …

Designated Survivor …

unknown-9

(source)

This totally surprised me that I got into it.  Dan, I knew it was right up his alley.  But the scenarios in this series are just a little too close to home, after the first episode I said “I can’t watch this anymore, it makes me nervous” and here I am — aching that it’s off air for another week and itching for the next one.  It’s sooo good.

For laughs, I turn to this The Good Place, with my favorite girl Kristen Bell

(source)

Set your dvr’s and you will thank me later.  Kristen is absolutely hysterical in this show, and the entire concept is genius.  I love a good light-hearted show to get into – my perfect way to end an evening.  Watch it!

Halloween is right around the corner, and if you lack crafty/diy skills have no fear, because Wayfair came out with the cutest halloween printables to make decorating for your little gouls extra easy!

From these cute book covers, to treat bag tags to masks! Check them out, HERE.

The next two books are ones I cannot wait to flip open.  They came in the mail this week and I know they both will be a page turner.

unknown-10

Amy, my girl, you cracked Dan and I up when we saw you at the Play House years ago and I know your book will be a cherry on top.  If you’re not into raunchy humor, this will more than likely not be your cup of tea.  But, if your foul-mouthed and enjoy having your head in the gutter like I do, you can buy it HERE.

And since buying cookbooks are my equivalent to what women feel after a shopping spree (pure euphoria) I knew I had to jump on getting Daphne Oz’s new cookbook.

51jmq8clhgl-_ac_us320_ql65_

I love her.  And if you follow her on snapchat you get a day to day glimpse of how normal and amazing she really is.  I have heard great things about all of her recipes in this book and cannot wait to dive in. Join me and grab it HERE.

Last but not least, if you need a good laugh, or need to pee your pants —

You’re welcome.  These ladies are my new Bff’s.

Luther Farm with the Fam

October 17, 2016 by Abby Thome

Luther Farm with the Fam

img_6425

Obviously you recognize one of those cuties up there.  The other two cuties are Dans cousins Melissa + Katie.  And if I’m being quiet frank, they are my cousins too.  Heck I’ve known them for over 13 years, which as you can see they are fresh-faced babes, and I’m 30 so yah, I’m practically their mother -HA.

They both work at this amazing farm, just a 20 minute ride from our house.  Luther Farm  – Luther’s Farm is this darling place where during the fall months in particular you can bring your kiddos for hours, and I mean hours of fun.  From hay rides, slides into the corn pit, ice-cream trucks, and face painting – those are just a few of the things you’ll get to do if you get your butt there in the next 2 weeks before they close for the season!

img_6408

To say places like these make me happy is a total understatement.  I get completely giddy running around with my littles, taking pictures and soaking up every ounce of the fall beauty around us.

img_6493

The barn in the back of the farm stand is my absolute favorite.  Hands down I am convinced I was a zoo keeper of some sorts in a past life.

img_6471

I named all of these babes as I walked around.  My gosh were they all had such a sweet temperament and most were just walking around at our feet!

img_6431

I should probably warn you now, there are a lot of pictures to this post.  But our trip to Luther’s was SO good, I could not resist showing you every nook and cranny.

unknown-7

That goat in the upper right hand corner was our soul mate.  He literally sat and perched himself up to be pet by our entire crew the whole time we were in the barn.  It was the sweetest –

img_6446

And let us not forget the star of the show –

img_6451

This rockin’ rooster was just prancing around like owned the place.  And judging by his beautiful black and white feathers, I’d have to agree with him

img_6433

I want to just volunteer for a day just so I can tend to the animals.

unknown-8

Of course you can pick up pumpkins, fresh produce and a sweet treat while you are there.  I’m telling you, they’ve got it all!

img_6505

We could not pull the kids away from the corn slide.  Any chance we could I snapped a picture of them!

img_6429

img_6417

They were pulling corn kernels out of every piece of clothing for the rest of the day ..

img_6492

We went a little pumpkin crazy, I just couldn’t help myself.  Like a kid in a candy store.

img_6483

Dan could not believe my madness, but like a good husband he stood behind his crazy wife.

img_6427

Max was a total dolly the entire time.  His pudge stops people in their tracks, most assume he is months older than he really is.  And I, just as them, want to squeeze him up all day long.

img_6513

He is Dan 100%

img_6506

img_6407

If you guys are local, I urge you to swing up here for the perfect fall celebration day with your loved ones.  We will continue this tradition for many years to come.

img_6510

Just next year, I may come back with presents for all of my farm friends – the animals that is.

img_0756

squish squish squish 🙂

img_0763

Make sure to show Luther’s Farm some love on Facebook — and go check them out!
