Christmas Morning.

Christmas Morning.

IMG_2578

Christmas morning was filled to the brim with excitement.

While the kiddos were jumping on our bed trying to get our butts up we were aching for another hour of sleep!

The show must go on! We stumbled out still a little foggy from all the entertaining the night prior, or shall we blame it on the a – a – a – a – alcohol?

IMG_2590

The boys sat on the stairs while mom and dad brushed their teeth and got their act together!

IMG_2585

See that picture above? Brody’s eye was swollen and goopy.  We figured his slobber got the best of him during his sleep and let the show go on!

IMG_2591

Annnnnd go!

IMG_2592

Nothing like the authentic squeals from your kids to wake you up and jolt you into the magic of Christmas!

Brody “hit the jackpot” this year from good ol’ Saint Nick.  Owen was over the moon about all of his gifts too.  I know it is not about the presents, but my word you guys, these kids were SO grateful and excited.  It was adorable!

Soon after the opening of all of the gifts Brody’s eye became a bit more concerning.  We had a family party to get to and something in my mommy brain pushed me to get him to urgent care.  Within minutes – the doctors hardly had to take a peek…

Pink eye it was for the guy!

unnamed-2

Tears, laughter, a popsicle, medicine and cancelling all plans for the day.

I kept joking with him asking who farted in his face – poor kid did not quite get the joke but anything with the word fart involved is an absolute hoot these days.

unnamed

I snuck off to my aunt and uncles with Owen for a moment later that evening – it was so good to see my family and spend some time with everyone! Back home we went to tend to sweet Brody – we have spent the past few days stuck inside – and the boys are in toy mode 24/7.

Loving this holiday break with my family – pink eye or not – so glad we have another whole week together!

Christmas Eve 2014.

December 26, 2014 by Abby Thome

Christmas Eve 2014.

Oh my Happy Holidays!!

Whew.  I am on the couch – cuddled up with a cup of black tea, basking in the aroma of dunkin doughnuts and loving the kids being completely immersed into their new toys! Our Christmas this year was one to definitely remember.  Not only was it our first Christmas in our new house – but we hosted Dan’s family for the annual Christmas Eve celebration and it was such a hit!

I know I have been a wee bit absent here lately – but that was completely intentional.  You see – I’m a little old school    in the sense of trying to untap from technology during the holidays.  Of course I peaked at Instagram + Facebook here and there — but really, my phone was never at my side and was the last thing on my list of things to check into. I loved it.  Being truly present in the moment — saving the blogging for another day – like today 🙂

Dan and I both are lucky to have large families.  So any ol’ get together is never a small feat.  Years of growing up with family parties and packed houses definitely made prepping for hosting Christmas Eve SO much easier.  We knew what to expect – and just wanted everyone to enjoy themselves.  And that is exactly what we did!

Great food, plenty of drinks and amazing people – our Christmas celebration was off to an amazing start.

Setting up for the bash was a cinch – we made sure to have it all done the night prior.

IMG_2493

With about 30 adults – we were SO thankful we bought this fixer upper with an amazing addition.  We had just enough room to squeeze everyone in for a nice sit down dinner.

IMG_2494

We tossed fresh tree trimmings into vases – not quite sure if it looked appealing to most – but it was festive and smelled amazing.

IMG_2495

My plaid pillows made their debut – and a super soft threshold throw from Target.  Little punches of red to add the holiday zing to the room.

IMG_2496

IMG_2482

The kids room was SO much fun to set up.  Buddy, our elf decorated (our boys said).  Simple snowflakes hanging from the ceiling – adorable santa plates and a coloring table-cloth to keep those little stinkers in their seats!

IMG_2477

IMG_2478

IMG_2499

The fire was roaring and as the guests came in we realized the heat was a bit too much to handle.  I am still surprised people did not change into tank tops!

IMG_2521

Amazing Christmas sweaters and delicious drinks.

IMG_2533

Santa Claus stopped by and the kids were jumping for joy !

IMG_2540

IMG_2549

IMG_2567

Even Great Grandma Thome got in on the action – we are all oh so lucky to spend the holidays with the very people who started this amazing family of ours!

IMG_2530

IMG_2563

The party went into the wee hours of the morning – and the kids were nestled in their beds.  We could not of asked for a more amazing first Christmas Eve in our new house.

New traditions and memories to last all our years.

Hope your Christmas Eve was one to remember!

Last Minute Purchases!

December 17, 2014 by Abby Thome

Last Minute Purchases!

this is NOT sponsored.  just me sharing what i am loving lately!

I am totally stuck in the ever-swirling-vortex of fixing up the house prior to our Christmas Eve party.  You know me, white trim needed painted again – which leads me to paint a table – which gives me the urge to buy new rugs to go under the table …

Oh.  This snow ball effect.  Surely if Frosty was a husband, and I was his wife, he would let me melt before I swiped my visa again.  Thankfully, I am not a snow-woman, and although Dan the man packs his own set of snow balls, he agrees with what was needed.

Minus one, well, 4 things.

You see, I had my eyes on plaid red holiday pillows for years now.  Honestly, nothing revs me up more than the sight of plaid during the holidays up against a crisp brown leather couch.  I have window shopped, picked up and held them in stores, and always walked away before I fed into my obsession.

Then one fine day a week ago, the amazing Wayfair had some amazing sales going on and I could not resist.

This zipcode design Lily Area Rug was exactly what we were looking for our kitchen.  We purchased 2.  One for underneath our freshly painted table (soon to be shared) and one for in front of our sink.  I am a fool for larger rugs in the kitchen – I know, it’s weird.  But, I am in there a lot and my feet love the cushion.

Zipcode-Deskkkkkkkign-Lily-Area-Rug

Glad to have the rugs checked off of my list – and for that price?! C’mon I should have gotten 1o.  Just kidding.

Now, this Holiday Plaid Pillow  had me at hello.  I was SUPER bummed when the shipment date said after the new year … I was tempted to cancel if I did not see it leave the warehouse by this weekend … last night I was laying in bed and got the email that it was shipped and will be here tomorrow! Kid you not — I said “OooooH YEAH” out loud, in the creepiest/most excited voice ever when I read the email.  Four of these lovely pillows are on their way!

Holiday+Plaid+Throw+Pillow-2

Cute right?! Just wait till you see them on leather ….Holiday+Plaid+Throw+Pillow-3

So with that order well on its way – I am back to painting! Can’t wait to show you guys these pieces set up in our house!

Brotherly Love.

December 15, 2014 by Abby Thome

Brotherly Love.

IMG_1718

There was always this subconscious race against the clock to want to have my kids close together in age.  Everyone told me how nice it is to have them so close – to “get it over with” – the baby stage that is.  When Brody was a little over 2 we welcomed Owen into our lives and it seemed so perfect that they were just two years apart.  What I realized very quickly was that I did not want to rush a darn thing.  If anything, I wanted it to slow down!

Fast forward to today, Brody being 5 1/2 and Owen 3 1/2 and I am so glad we hit pause on the baby train.   After having two little boys closer in age the clock seemed to spin so much faster.  No longer was it about wanting the next one – our miscarriage made us realized to be in the moment, not wishing for the next.

IMG_1734

These two have formed a bond that I pray is unbreakable.

No matter who is better at sports, has better grades in school, or dates the girl the other one was crushing on.

I hope that their bond is deeper than anything life can throw their way.

IMG_1713

Dan and I have spent the past few years enjoying life with these two amazing little boys.  Soon enough we will not be able to call them little.  Before we know it they will be taller than me.   Right now, they are having a riot with one another.  It brings us so much joy to watch them play together for hours straight.  Of course there is always fighting in between – but let’s get real, they are brothers.

IMG_1721

So much alike, and yet totally different.  Each one bringing something to the table that the other is learning from.  Each one cracking us up with their corky personality.

Their wit is unbeatable and their compassion for everything is so evident.

IMG_1715

We are loving this stage of life we are in.  Even when the baby fever reaches a high and we wonder what it would be like to add another member to our family – we make sure to take a step back and relish in this.

I never imagined my life would be so blessed with these two little men.

I would not trade it for the world.

Family Room Updates!

Family Room Updates!

{This post contains affiliate links.  Items purchased through these links results in The Thome Home receiving commission.  Thank you for your support to help us grow this blog!}

I just had to share with you guys a bit of our family room progress! I stumbled across a few pictures of when we first started renovating this room and could not resist snapping a few for comparison! We added a few window treatments to this space and it has made such a difference! Not only does it block the draft from our old windows, it adds that cozy feeling this over sized room needed!

IMG_0093

IMG_0094

Red Red trim, stay away for meeee…just let me be alone.  This red trim as most of you know really kicked our tushies.

Now, the room is lighter and has such a great family feel that’s extremely functional!

IMG_2466

We have the same brown leather couch we had at our old house in the basement.  I really did not like the thought of this pit going in the family room – months later it is growing on me.  We are always entertaining, so room for plenty of bums is such an added bonus to this large space.  Glad we kept it.   That sweet Olive Oil on there giving herself a bath however, has made her mark … so who knows how long it will survive this “Don’t declaw your cat” phase.IMG_2456

We added these fantastic Sonoma curtains from Kohls a few weeks ago across our entire first floor.  This girl cannot, (and I mean cannot) pass up a clearance!  Why buy one when you can buy ten!? The new lighting is from the one and only Home Depot – online actually! You should scroll through, but reserve hours of your time because they have thousands to pan through.  I love the nautical feel/industrial feel.  Anything is better than those flower ones they had in here.

IMG_0098

We LOVE this fireplace – we are constantly having fires during this chilly winter.  We took off the front piece, to expose more brick as you can see in the picture below … still trying to figure out what we want to go there so it’s looking half done for now.

IMG_2458

IMG_0094

IMG_2447

IMG_0097

IMG_2454
IMG_2450

Somehow I convinced Dan to let me get roman shades for this oversized window in our family room.  Maybe it was a really good dinner? Or a new t-shirt? Or sex? Who knows, but he was all on board and we are both so glad we agreed on it.  Not only do they dim the glare on our T.V. – but I am a fool for added texture.  Gimme that texture.

Here you can find the ones who had in our old house – and here you can find them on amazon and get them yourself!
IMG_2457

Love the crap on the floor in the hallway? Yes, I shoved and threw stuff there.  Where I thought it was out-of-the-way .. haha.  Fail.

IMG_2459

Olive is also a peeping tom.  So if you come to our house, keep your clothes at all times and the bathroom door shut when you’re in there.

We still rock the kids play area – I love how when looking into the room you have no idea all of this junk is behind the couch.  It. is. fantastic.

IMG_2452

Eight long months later and the progress we have made is unbelievable.  Honestly, I’m proud of what we have done on a constant tight budget.  We are not homeowners that have a money tree to buy what we want and when we want it.  I am proud of the fact that our DIY style is an affordable one.

Now, if I had a money tree, do you know what I would do??

1. Create a DIY wall unit for the wall with the t.v. Who wants to sponsor us so we can get it done?! C’mon… I know you’re out there  🙂

IMG_2463

As much as I love this  craigslist dresser makeover – it would be SO nice to have the entire wall filled – with something like this …

traditional-tv-wall-unit-wood-9733-4941941

(potterybarn)

We will DIY this piece by next summer, put it on that project list!

2. For that gorgeous wall unit I DREAM of building would be just as amazing with a much larger t.v. for the hubby.  We all know ladies that bigger is better for our  men.

3.  New patio doors – this is much more of a need than a want.  Considering you can dry your hair with the draft from how old/improperly installed it is.

4. Art work.

The new curtains + window treatments have added the warmth we were looking for in this room.  Art work would really tie it all together nicely.

That’s it.  This room really has come together so well .. and does not need much more.

What rooms have you made small improvements on that have made a big impact?

I’d love to know!

p.s. really digging this globe that my parents got handed down to them by my darling grandparents – thank you grandpa + grandma the boys are LOVING it!! IMG_2455

Spinach Artichoke Dip with Chobani

Spinach Artichoke Dip with Chobani

When Chobani contacted me to see if I was interested in making a few recipes for them I nearly jumped off the couch.  Seeing as I was sitting with my laptop on my lap I just squealed and replied to the email as quickly as possible!

#MadewithChobani project is chock full of inspiration for recipes to add to your list! Check it out on Instagram!

Follow Chobani on Facebook

or Instagram too!

You will be drooling in no time with all of the many ways you can incorporate Chobani into your life!

Our family LOVES Chobani greek yogurt! As you all have seen, I constantly use greek yogurt in my cooking to substitute less healthy options.

My mind was racing with all different ideas of what to share with you all first – and this appetizer jumped to the top of the list.  Holiday parties are in full effect right now, so if you are looking for a new dish to bring this is one to surely turn too! This dip is tangy, rich, and packed full of flavor.  Even better, a little bit of chopping, stirring and baking and you are well on your way to bringing an appetizer that is sure to please a crowd!

IMG_2412

I seriously surprised myself with how amazing this turned out! As I am typing I cannot stop scooping – there goes my dinner.   I. just. can’t. stop.

 IMG_2430

Best part about this appetizer? It can easily be made ahead of time – simply putting the panko breadcrumbs on before you put it into the oven.  You would store it in the fridge at this state ….

IMG_2423

Cover it in saran wrap – when ready to bake, top with breadcrumbs and bake!

Our tree this year is coated in blue, silver and gold, and I must admit it is my favorite tree we have done yet! Every year I try to give you guys a sneak peek at the boys holiday wishes – and this year we picked a few of our favorites to share with you all!

Want a peek into Santa’s bag?

Well the boys have been extra good lately, really, I swear.  They are counting down the days until Santa squeezes his way down our chimney and places their presents under the twinkling tree.

Rumor has it that Santa’s elves are working extra hard this year on everyone’s Christmas wishes! Our boys are forever adding to the list, and thankfully these elves are up for the challenge.

1. My Drunk Kitchen – Hannah Hart   This cook book is not for the faint of heart.  Her sense of humor is hysterical.  She says it like it is and keeps the puns rolling in … it is a great read! So if you know someone who likes to cook, consume alochol and laugh their butts off – this is the perfect gift!

2. record player   Dan and I use this daily.  One of the best + cheapest purchases of the year.  We use it every single day  to play music with in the background – nothing better than records playing while cooking up a meal!

ALSO – I could not pass up another Happy Mommy Box for the month of December – Ladies/mammas out there, you have to jump on this opportunity to give yourself a little something special each month.  I cannot wait to my second box! Something Old into Something New.

December 5, 2014 by Abby Thome

Something Old into Something New.

{ This post contains affiliate links.  If purchases are made through these links The Thome Home receives commission.  Thank you for your support! }

If you know this blog well enough, you know I’ll pick through an antique store, I’ll pick through your garage sale, your garbage, HEY, I’ll even pick your nose.

Okay, maybe just my kids if I have to.

Point is, I am hooked on finding household items for a steal.  I literally get far to excited when I find an item I can give life back to.  Now, with that said, it is not always done correctly, or perfectly for that matter.  I am definitely a DIY-wanna be.  Not even close to a pro.  But I love what I find, I love what I make it, and I love doing it!

We have a store here in town that has a multitude of thrifty household items that we frequent.  The kids know the owner, and the owners dog that stays at the store.  And Dan and I know every nook and cranny to dig into to find just the right piece.

We have been wanting an area in our house to store liquor, wine and a few glasses at.  Especially since we torn down the majority of our kitchen cabinets we needed the extra space.  We fantasized about larger pieces from Pottery Barn –

img95o

(source here)

A gorgeous piece made to fit each glass and bottle and really stand the test of time.  Reality is our pockets were not in the mood to drop a small fortune on a cabinet to store alcohol.  We’d rather buy alcohol with that money.  Ya with me?

So while we save up to get a piece like the one above, we decided to get thrifty.

While digging through the outside area at the thrift store we found this dirty dingy gem –

unnamed

We loved the handles and the traditional lines to the cabinet! One thing that was hard to look past was it’s lean.  Poor thing looked like it itself had one to many cocktails and was falling forward.  We contemplated bring it home for minute, because it also needed a good sanding as well … and then, an $11 sticker popped out at us and we did not waste a second longer to purchase it! ELEVEN dollars?! It it works out, great, if it doesn’t – no great loss.

Dan set it up in the garage and ended up having to shave off (with a Ryobi circular saw) the back legs of the cabinet until it was sitting perfectly level.  We were moving in the right direction! A lot of chipping away and sanding later I was finally able to paint it the perfect shade of navy blue, Starless Night by BEHR.

The results? A gorgeous not-to-traditional bar that looks amazing in our dining room!

IMG_2385

IMG_2380

Dan finally treated himself to a record player – he has always wanted one to play his dads old records with.  It has been such a great addition to the dining room, being able to play music at dinner.  It is sleek and small, and the sound that comes from it is great! Oh, and it is only $45! Bada – bing.

IMG_2381

I found this great framed chalkboard at the one and only HomeGoods + decided to add a cocktail theme holiday phrase to it!

IMG_2399

Isn’t it amazing what taking a little bit of time and a lot of love to a piece that could have been thrown out furniture can turn into?

IMG_2402

Inside we have the records, a few glasses and a shelf that is just begging to be stacked with liquor.  Okay, okay, it can stop pulling our legs now … we’ll go get some.

IMG_2405

So let this be a lesson to you! You do not always have to jump on that brand new piece from a store or website — something old, something borrowed and something new can be applied to home decor as well, and truly helps bring a room together! So start thinking, turning something old INTO something new!

2 Must Have Scarves!

2 Must Have Scarves!

(This is NOT sponsored, NOR contains affiliate links.  Just me wanting to share a good deal + my favorite pieces!)

These cold winter days leave my neck begging for warmth.  Thankfully, my other lover, Target  knows how to warm me up just right.

Figured I’d share these with you incase you were in need this winter season of the perfect winter scarves!

Even better, right now they are buy one get one 50% off! I could not resist sharing a good deal with you guys!

IMG_2153This cream knitted scarf is one of my favorites added to my bunch.  It goes with everything! Over a jacket, sweater, layered with a cardigan, topless etc.  Okay, maybe not the topless one would be the best option.  Bit nipply out, ay?

You can find it here.

IMG_2283Scarf number 2 I wear more often that I probably should.  the holiday colors swirling through in plaid gets me every time! I adore the way it looks layered with navy blues, greys and of course crisp whites.

You can find it here.

I have never been a hat girl, and trying to push my limits with wearing a few.  Same with scarves  — but these two were a game changer!

Tunes for your Wednesday.

December 3, 2014 by Abby Thome

Tunes for your Wednesday.

I cannot thank you guys enough for all of the amazing feedback to our Giani Countertop post! Not only are we completely smitten with their product, but we are totally blown away by your responses and humbled that you even care to look at what we do to our home! We truly hope you guys will continue to check back in and join in on all the fun we have on our blog!

Halfway through the week – are you needing a pick me up?

You can catch me singing 99% of my day.  Maybe it’s my showchoir past or my urge to dance in my pants all day long?

The other weekend at a wedding I had a chance with Dan to let my hair down and get my groove on.  Honestly I’m 100% embarrassing and 10% entertaining to be around.  But this is me.  The girl who will not get off the dance floor once the music starts … it’s in my bones.

unnamed-3

Apparently Dan wanted to freeze this moment in time with a picture.

To prove how ridiculous I am?

( Saying that out loud felt like an, “I’m Ron Burgundy?” moment.)

Just like when he swears that I snore at night … psssssh.  Whatever.

I thought it would be fun to share with you some of my favorite tunes lately.

Songs I can never get enough of.  Now while these may not be songs that I bust out moves, they are definitely ones I’m caught singing in the shower, hoping nobody can hear me.

I LOVE Brandon and Leah Jenner .. and Brandon’s voice in this song is like butta.

Oh Tony Bennett.  Oh Lady Gaga. Who would have ever thought? This song makes me love you both even more.

So join me in the shower, will you?

Singing that is!
