From the Heart.

From the Heart.

IMG_1715

My days are fairly routine.

Somedays I feel like I spend more time wiping pee off of the back of a toilet seat than watching what goes in it from the boys.   We wake up – eat breakfast – take Brody to school – run errands – pick up Brody – go home and the rest of the day is always up in the air.  7:00 is the usual bedtime for the kids during the weekdays, and the weekends we tend to go with the flow depending on what we are up too.

Before bed at night we give our hugs and kisses to each other – Owen has a particular song he likes me to sing to him and we drift off into snoozeland.   As sweet as our bedtime routine can be (trust me we have our nights where they are anything but sweet) I would like to have prayer be a bigger part of our night with the kids.

Raised Catholic, went to Catholic school K-8th grade, the whole shabang.  My parents divorced when I was going into high school – and somewhere between switching schools and adjusting to a new way of life, church went on the back burner.  I have to be honest, even with going to school in an environment where you are taught + surrounded by your faith, I do not think I ever really 100% felt the connection.

Fast forward to now, and both of our boys have yet to be baptised.  Dan grew up the same way as I – and in high school going to church went on the back burner as well.  We’ve been talking more and more about wanting to get the boys baptised soon.

I want them to pray with purpose, and have prayer to turn to in tough times.

I have always been one to pray, at any time of day, whether it was in the car, at the dinner table, or in bed at night.  Whether it be for 10 seconds or 4 minutes – I find comfort in prayer.

The other morning I was chatting with Brody about praying for people – I often stop to have the kids pray for someone even it is brief — I want them to enjoy learning about faith, and incorporate it more into their lives.   It just caught me off guard that our conversation was just as brief as the questions — and I realize with him being so young there is only so much he will understand.  BUT – with that said, I would love for our boys to have a greater understanding of the bigger picture in life.

Just because I had a tough time with my faith in my adolescent years does not mean I cannot start again – Or that my boys will have the same experience.  To be honest, I think it is good to have moments that challenge you in your faith.  No one is perfect, no way of doing things is perfect, So I guess Dan and I more than anything want to find a way for our family that fits us –  we do not want to fit our kids into a mold.

Listen, I curse, we make inappropriate jokes (all of which not in front of the kids) – we are super social, like to enjoy a cocktail now and again and do not always follow a straight line.  I definitely want the kids to feel accepted in their church – for whatever the case may be.  I remember feeling like my family was suddenly frowned upon once my parents divorced.  It was an awful feeling thinking that a church that you once spent a ton of time with – looked at you a bit differently.

I pray that these boys will one day truly understand that they are not alone.  That when no one else understands, they can turn to their faith for comfort and reassurance that everything will be okay.

We love, we fight, we laugh, we make mistakes, and were all praying in our own way.  Maybe it doesn’t have to be like the old days to be just as good as our new ones?

Through writing this out I guess I am starting to realize that I do not have to follow the exact path I did – nor do my children – I just want them to have a greater grasp on whats important in life – and how to keep their faith at the top of the list.

I stumbled across this song the other day – through a blogger I have mentioned before – Natalie

I am LOVING… listen to it daily + catch myself singing it all the time.

It will give you goosebumps! (the song – not my singing)

I am loving incorporating into our car rides and hoping the kids will grasp the message one day.

Kitchen Game Plan.

November 10, 2014 by Abby Thome

Kitchen Game Plan.

[[ There are definite foot-in-mouth moments from me on this blog.  Like one when your mother calls you to tell you she went to go show some friends of hers her daughters blog, telling them about the recipes and such.  And the first thing that  pops up …. “sex tape” from my post last week.  I’m fairly certain she nearly fainted – and thought Dan and I really did make a sex tape.  So sorry mom! I definitely know  how to make people uncomfortable – but like to keep it real 🙂 ]]

I can’t fight this feeling any longer.

Everyday – all day, I stare at my kitchen and feel like I have been sucked into a time machine back to the 70’s and I cannot get back to 2014.   The orange countertops!! While they may be fitting for this past Halloween season, they are a fright to be standing next to.  The cabinets are old, and each one has their own unique grease-induced fade to them.  We’re stuck with the orange tiled flooring – there is not enough cash on our money tree to take those out just yet.

I spend a TON of time in my kitchen.  Like any mother – breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks in between – and add to that a girl who likes to bake and experiment with new recipes, it’s is my most lived in room.  I need a space that I WANT to cook in.  A room that I do not want to whip something up and rush out of.  A kitchen I want guests to hang out in and not always ask us when were renovating it next.

With that said …

We have a few things to fix – and a tight budget to do so.

 paint cabinets

resurface the countertops

 create custom shelving

window treatments

add decor

Those are the projects to tackle on our list before the holiday season – fingers crossed this can all happen before Thanksgiving.

For those of you who are interested in giving their kitchen an affordable facelift, this will surely be one you’ll want to be checking in on!

Our goal? A fresh new look that will hopefully last 5-7 years until we are ready to do a full-blown renovation.  I think it will be the smartest decision since we are far too impatient to let the time pass – and it will be good to live here a bit longer until we know how we really want to put money into this space.  Plus – let’s face it, kids wreck things.  So putting in finishes that will likely be colored on, broken and banged up is just not the smartest of choices right now.

I have always loved the look of two toned cabinets.  Mainly in the form of the island being a different color than the cabinetry.   In our kitchen we have that “L” shaped counter space that sticks out – therefore we would have to paint the entire base of cabinets a separate color to achieve this look.  Whether it be navy or taupe base cabinets, and white on top – I am always drawn to the dual look.

The cabinet to the left of the window, along with that odd scroll going across tempted me each day to tear it down when Dan was not looking.

IMG_1932

We started to unload the cabinets to prep for the renovation –  and thankfully Dan jumped right on board with ripping those two pieces out! I didn’t even have to beg or bribe, he seemed to finally realize how much losing a bit of cabinet space would open up more options for that area.

The spot to the left of the window will now be the new home for our custom shelves.

IMG_2016

As soon as those two pieces came down I felt SO much better.  I cannot explain to you how much they drove me crazy.  The bulky cabinet blocked so much light, and as you can see – it is a dark kitchen already.

Next we have our nook – you can see how much brighter the room feels after we knock out the cabinet.

IMG_2007

IMG_2014

I LOVE this area – I am looking to add a fresh coat of paint to the base of our table + chairs – and add a lot more decor to the walls and window treatments [leaning towards getting new roman shades like we had in our old home].  We spend  a ton of time in this space, so I want to it feel cozy!

IMG_2017

IMG_2008

As you can see we already tested the wall color + the base cabinet color a smidge.  We really just went with our gut on the color choices – tried to not over think it.  Which, I do all the time.

ANYTHING will make this space look better and more updated than it is now – so we just jumped right in!

I spent the entire weekend taking the cabinet fronts off – deglossing the surface- and painting coat after coat [4 on each surface and 4 more to go]

I have so much more painting to do – and we have an extremely exciting collaboration to share with you all in a few weeks for the BIG reveal!

Any projects you want to tackle before the holidays? Big or small? We are hosting a small gathering for  Thanksgiving and a much larger one for Christmas Eve – I am SO anxious to get this done and have a fresh new space for everyone to celebrate in!

Caprese Crostini

Caprese Crostini

IMG_1563

I have to share with you all this “recipe” that I have made way too many times to count for family parties lately!

This has to be one of the easiest appetizers I have ever whipped up.  It is my go to dish when I have zero time and want to share something with friends and family that is healthy and delicious.

There is no right or wrong way to make this!  Sometimes I toast the crostini and other times I leave the bread as soft as it was when it left the bakery.

I have been known to take a big whiff of a fresh baguette as it’s in my arms leaving a store, not even realizing I’m out in public and people must be staring.  Something about fresh bread that makes me weak in the knees.  What can I say? I’m like the girls in an axe commercial but for baked goods.  ALL. OVER. IT.

Chop and toss the topping together, slice the bread and assemble right before a gathering.

My family gobbles these up quicker than they are put down!

Sex Tape.

Sex Tape.

IMG_1746

Have you guys seen the movie Sex Tape yet? With Cameron Diaz + Jason Segel – both whom we adore.  If you haven’t –  go rent it [if you are into inappropriate movies] and then read this post.  If you read this posts title and assumed Dan and I released our latest collaboration, you’ve been mistaken.

Today, I’m talking about marriage.   Honestly, this could apply to long-term relationships in general – but in my case it’s marriage.  In Sex Tape – it revolves around a couple trying to get back to the way things used to be between them in the beginning of their relationship.  As a last resort to spice things up they come up with the idea to make a sex tape – in hopes to bring the zest back into their love lives.

Of course being a movie it’s a bit over the top, but, it really spoke to me – and no we did not make a sex tape.

Dan and I have been together since we were 17 years old — Now at the ripe young age of 28 I can say that quite a bit has changed.

Our SITUATIONS have changed.

Our RELATIONSHIP has changed.

WE have changed.

Our LIVES have changed.

When we first met we were school kids completely drooling over one another.  Dan couldn’t keep his hands off of me and I as well.  PDA was a given – over the top at times I am sure.  We said “I love you” within two weeks of dating.  Which sound ridiculously fast to some, but we really truly did – and I do not think we ever second guessed our future together.

Fast forward to when Dan went away to college and I was back home tackling hair school + working full-time – our situations definitely changed.  Long distance was not my cup of tea.  Dan was having  a blast living the college life and I remember being so worried he would find someone better.  I was far from a party girl – so I feared he would find someone who was more into the night life than I.

We spent that two years with me going down to see Dan after I got off of work late saturday nights – the excitement was SO high to see each other all of the time.  His time home was so thrilling + the long distance was as equally scary as amazing.  That is the time in our relationship where I had true jealously – being a girl and worrying all the darn time.  It took me a while to realize that even after “seeing what was out there” he still chose me.

I moved to Columbus to start my hair career there and move in with Dan.  It was such a whirlwind of a time.  Living together for the first time and working at an amazing salon.  Our relationship changed.  We loved deeply and bickered a ton.  Our relationship was full of highs and lows – it was the best year and worst year all wrapped into one.  It was a time when we actually realized how much our dynamic had changed over the long distance span of two years.  Not for the worse, just different than what it had been.   It was the first time I think we both fully understood the meaning of “growing together”.  We were falling deeper in love by the minute  –

When the dust settled and our wild experience of being newbies living together came to an end – we moved back to Cleveland to start new jobs.  It was really exciting – and so comforting to see how we made it through that past year even stronger.  Just two shy months of being back home we found out we were expecting.  Very quickly we were swept off of our feet at 22 years old- just starting off in our new jobs and realizing that we had ALOT of things to do to get ready for a baby.  No, we did not feel ready.  We wanted an engagement – a wedding – thriving careers and then a baby.  Life threw us through a loop.

Fast forward to nearly 6 years later + two amazing little kids.  I have no idea where the time has gone.  We’ve had our struggles – emotionally, physically, financially.  Somehow – over the years our relationship has grown stronger and stronger.  It amazes me to see how far we have come and the family we have created.  WE have changed.  Starting a relationship off at a very young age can be the biggest blessing – it also pushed us through so many life changes to go through together it threw us through many ups and downs.

OUR LIVES are so much better because of each other.  Dan and I have never more connected than we are now.  Our love for one another is so much deeper than that puppy love we had at 17 – yet at the same time I feel just as smitten with him as I did then.

Marriage is not easy.  Relationships require work.  Both of us understand the attention and compassion it takes to keep our relationship going strong.  We are not the same people we were over ten years ago.  We’ve been knocked down.  Seen each other at their absolute worse – held onto each other during the toughest of times and shared in the joy with each other during the best.

My goodness – Dan has seen me give birth – twice.  Any husband that has seen their wife in that moment and still wants to sleep with you weeks after is a true testament to love.

I know our relationship is far from perfect, but as difficult as it is to face the tough times it is 10x as rewarding to come out stronger on the other end.

So no matter how much our situations, relationship, our lives or we have changed – I am forever grateful for our commitment to bring out the best in one another.

Marriage is sacred.  Dan and I have a long road ahead of us.  So what – were not making out on a park bench like we did when we were younger – we have evolved, we’d rather makeout after a 3 hour reality show marathon.

Through the highs and lows – our marriage is forever.  I do not wish to speed up time – but I am perfectly okay with getting old and wrinkly with this guy.  Maybe 60 years from now we’ll run out of ways to spice things up and then well to do doing  a sex tape.

Absolutely kidding.  Or am I?

Raphael + Leonardo.

Give a boy a turtle shell and a mask and it’s all over.

IMG_1955

We were lucky enough to get a head start on trick or treating Thursday night – our community does it for the kids at all of the local shops.  We were thrilled to learn this seeing as they called for rain Halloween night!

Ninja Turtles was all the rage this year – and that rage spread right into our home and straight out of our pockets when we found these turtle shells + masks on sale at target in the toy section.  The boys were SO excited – no words.

IMG_1971

The excitement led us to be 30 minutes early to the event – thank goodness Heinens serves beer on tap! Mom and Dad were able to enjoy a cold brew while we waited for the crowds to gather.

IMG_1981

IMG_1980

IMG_1976

Even better, the crowds never came.  The weather was cold enough that the crowds stayed small and our two munchkins ripped through the streets!

IMG_1985

Of course this Ninja Turtle immediately took to the sewers, it’s only natural.

IMG_1991

Second pit stop to say the pledge of allegiance – thank you pre k for that.

IMG_1992

Off those boys went – every shop that participated had local students paint their windows – they boys were loving it!

IMG_1996

IMG_1997

I have to say on behalf of myself + Dan we are completely smitten with our city.

IMG_1954

A perfect way to trick or treat.  A fantastic night to end the last few days of October!

Hope you all had a fantastic Halloween with your kids this year!

Hey, You!

November 4, 2014 by Abby Thome

Hey, You!

I have SO much to share with you guys this week – but really wanted to get this post out to you first.  With out blog rapidly growing, I wanted to take this step quickly!

Well well well.  Bloggers around know that looking at your stats is never a “good thing”.  It’s easy to get discouraged and get down when no one is looking at your posts.  Or you get far to hyped when a post has gone viral and you feel like a million bucks only for the next week or so to not see the numbers rise again.

Funny thing is, I have never chased numbers.  While I do pray that one day this blog leads me to other roads, I am fully aware that this popularity contest in blog land is out of control.  Our blog has grown organically over the years – I do not do things strategically to grow quickly… honestly, I believe either readers will like me or they will not.  Of course always hoping you do 🙂

With that said, I peaked – and still peak daily at our numbers.  Just out of curiousity.  Which posts seem to grab the attention of you guys, or touch your hearts, or make ya laugh.  It’s easy to see what you truly enjoy seeing from me.

Seeing my numbers rise and rise over the past year I am awfully curious as to who the heck is reading this little slice of my life? Then I had the brilliant idea that we should do some introductions here.  I’d like to share a bit more about myself, odd facts about me – some things you may already know if you have read this blog for a while.  And what I’d like in return is if you would leave a comment on this post (at the bottom of this post) and introduce yourself – nothing too personal – Your first name – where you are from – what your favorite thing to read about here is and how you stumbled across The Thome Home.

Fun right?

I’d like to get to know you guys more too, so this would be a fantastic place to start!

IMG_1752

So that’s me ^^ Abby Thome

Taking this picture was SO awkward – like the senior pictures I never took because I was too embarrassed to capture the phase I went through when I died my hair black.  Yes – a natural blonde going to the dark side – it was a mistake lets just say that.

I am addicted to Starbucks – and I have tried to quite many times.  Habit started when I worked there part time in Columbus, Ohio.  My drink? Oh baby – Iced Venti Soy Unsweetened Green Tea Latte with 2 scoops Matcha.  Now thats a mouthful!

I’ve got a goofy personality, hyper and playful.  Sometimes a sailors mouth and always a dirty pun to throw your way.  I’m not proud of it – but hey, it’s who I am.

I am a former hair stylist- now turned stay at home mom + blogger.

The few moments I get alone in the car you can find me singing at the top of my lungs to the most random array of music there ever was.

Once in a blue moon I cave into one of my most delicious cravings.  A warm brown sugar cinnamon pop tart smeared with peanut butter.  Consider yourself warned – it is unbeatable.

I had my first son (Brody) out of wedlock (gasp!) Thee best gift Dan and I could have ever been surprised with.

I have anxiety – you may never guess it from my out going personality.

I will wait weeks for a particular item to go on clearance – and live off of the high for years when I snag it.

I use 4 items for makeup.  Powder.  Bronzer.  Eyeliner + Mascara.  Makeup for myself intimidates me – but I can always do it on others and make them look like a million bucks.

I dream of one day being a writer – whether it be in articles for magazines or to write a book.

You can read a little more ABOUT US <<

Okay guys – now that you know a little bit more about me, introduce yourself!

Can’t wait to get to know you all better!

Tree Day!

November 3, 2014 by Abby Thome

Tree Day!

We introduced you to our jungle

here

where you saw a cluster of trees in our backyard that looked like this …

img_0683_1

The funny thing is, in the picture above we actually had grass.  Barely 2 weeks after taking this picture – due to the lack of sun from our ever-growing trees – that grass quickly died and our yard turned into a pile of dirt.

Anyone with kids knows that cleaning them up after playing outside for hours requires loads of laundry and cleaning the floors – and with our yard it was 10x that.

We had multiple companies come out and give us a quote for our backyard, all of which were far off the price range that we wanted to spend – or even capable of budgeting for at the moment.  So we sucked up our hopes of having a large grassy backyard for the boys + faced the music that one tree would have to go at a time, giving us years to separate the cost.

Lucky us we have insane family members that wanted (literally they were excited) to help us tackle our backyard in

ONE day.

Here are some of the before pictures to give you a better idea of what our front/backyard looked like prior to our lumber jack experience.

IMG_1783

Yuck – am I right?

This outdoor area was progressively getting worse by the hour.  With each leaf falling we knew this back yard was one that we needed to tackle before the winter came.  The trees were tall – really tall.  Like “Um, are we going to hit the fence when they drop?” tall.

IMG_1794

A lot of the tallest trees were directly up against the back of our house.  So, if your thinking we are cruel with cutting these trees down – trust me, it was more for safety + preserving our house than anything.  We’ve put a pretty penny into basement work already + we’ve been told SO many times that the trees and lack of sunlight are just making everything worse.

IMG_1801

IMG_1791

We had 17 trees total to tackle – we assumed it was going to take a few weekends to get it done.

Little did we know Dan’s Uncle was actually the Incredible Hulk – and let me tell ya, that guy sliced and diced these trees like a butcher.

IMG_1803

IMG_1833

These guys were glowing over the chance to get down with their tools.

IMG_1853

The day came and went faster than the trees crashed to the ground!

Our driveway was set with leaf blowers, chain saws, a four-wheeler for hauling + plenty of supplies – these guys were the real deal.

IMG_1825

We were so fortunate to of scheduled this day on one of the amazing 70* October days!

IMG_1849

Each tree that dropped to the ground made the loudest bang – stopping everyone in their tracks.  Besides the guys that had to pull and guide the tree down into the right direction!

IMG_1912One by one the trees were cut down – each tree than chopped up and tossed into a pile, later to be cut into fire wood.

IMG_1891

Thank goodness for this because we having fires in our family room all the time lately!

I’ll jump straight to the good stuff — the final results! ALL 17 trees were tackled that gorgeous October day.

IMG_1888

IMG_1909

I was FAR too excited to see this yard take a turn for the better (it’s a process)

IMG_1892

IMG_1875

Even the clarity we have above our garage is a HUGE difference.  I cannot begin to even explain the difference we have in sunlight that pours into our house now.  I told you guys before how our house felt way to dark around the clock – we no longer have that issue and it has been amazing!

IMG_1908

We have PLENTY of cleaning up to go – Dan and his dad spent this past Saturday with a wood chipper tackling the massive branch piles you see above.  Next weekend we will grind the stumps and the entire yard down – so that in the Spring, we will be ready to plant grass!

WAHOO!!!!!

IMG_1913After everything came down – this beauty right behind our fence stood out – and I could not be happier to have this one sticking around.

One more before and after, shall we?

IMG_1785

IMG_1915

It’s like a fresh pair of shaved legs after going days without.  I’m feeling fresh –

A massive thank you to our family who helped and hung out that day.  There was not enough food or beer or hugs that could show our gratitude to what you did for our family.

WE LOVE YOU GUYS!

Front Door Makeover.

October 30, 2014 by Abby Thome

Front Door Makeover.

“Abby!” knock. knock. knock. “Abby!” knock. knock. knock.

Watch Big Bang Theory? If you don’t, you won’t get that line ^^ and you must start!

I feel like Sheldon is just minutes away from knocking on our front door to protest how ugly and uneven it is.

We know the facts though — this poor door has faced way to many paint brushes over the years trying to find just the right shade.  We put this door through 3 colors in 5 months!

First I fantasized about a jade green door against our navy/charcoal toned house.  I still think it would look fantastic but the hubby was not impressed with my choice.

Second color I painted on was a “navy” blue – which turned out looking more purple than anything.

img_0628_1

Hard to see in the picture above mid construction – but the blurple door was an eye sore.

Last, out of sheer frustration I jumped back to our door color from our previous house that we adoored (ha).

IMG_1511

IMG_1519

That color has been on for a few months, I did not hate it.  I did not love it with the rest of the house though.

The light blue showed all of the layers of paint from prior applications and it looked awful!

See the warped lines around the right and left bottom half of the door?

Dan removed the door to start the sanding process.

We used the same sander we used for our stair case – it has been one of the best purchases we made in a long time.

IMG_1575

IMG_1578

Our first step towards a better door was to sand off all of the uneven layers.

Look at that concentration in that mans eyes.  Love a serious sander – seriously sexy.

This actually was an extremely easy step – I say this because I sat back and took pictures 🙂

IMG_1582

IMG_1584

This is what we were left with – it looks awful, but the door was as close to even as it was ever going to get which left us very happy!

In between painting a few coats of paint on, we had to turn our attention to our storm door.  It far surpassed a hot mess.  Rusted and filthy dirty!

IMG_1516

We took it off of its hinges and gave it a fresh coat of white spray paint –

We wanted a front door color to accent the fresh crisp new white paint on the storm door – one last coat that hopefully we would not be tempted to change, that could go with any season and help us achieve the look we wanted.

In hopes to help the wreaths we choose pop + to tie in the porch rockers and lighting we added.

Back to the basic we went – a black front door.

IMG_1877

The high glossed black front door, with a squeaky clean white storm door – new lighting and rockers has turned our front porch from frumpy to fantastic.

I guess this is the very first picture of the finished front porch that you guys have seen too huh?

We are totally head over heels with having this porch complete.

The rockers we found on clearance at Lowes for $40 a piece really made us squeal!

We had these hideous lights that we planned on just spray painting – but we could not handle the look of them any longer …

IMG_1506They look spooky do they not?

Our new fixtures were just the right touch to go with our new door!

IMG_1879

The new lighting is from Lowes – clearanced for less than $20 a piece.

They have been siting in our garage since we moved here and thankfully painting the door gave us the kick in the butt to put them up!

IMG_1880

Oy.  For the first time in MONTHS we have sunshine at our house.  We had a massive, and I mean massive tree cutting day over last weekend and the sunshine has finally found its way to our home.

I’m deLIGHTed.

IMG_1873

IMG_1898

The look of the door inside of our house when open has a better feel overall too.  I added a birch wreath that I could not keep my eyes off of for weeks from target.

Anyone else have the urge to paint and re paint until the right shade is achieved? With our kitchen cabinets getting done over the next two weeks – I am hopeful that my guessing game stops at paint can number one!

What do you do when you don’t feel like forking over a paycheck for family portraits?

Take them yourself folks!

We have had the most gorgeous stretch of warmer days here, and had to take advantage of it!

After looking at these I still cannot wrap my head around the fact that these are our FIRST family pictures we’ve ever taken.

The majority of the leaves have already fallen off of the trees – and it created a gorgeous backdrop.  You would think the opposite – but there was something about the bare trees that gave these pictures their own unique look.

So in LOVE.

Don’t you love them? I know they are not edited yet, but I like that they are truly all our own.

Cannot wait to get these in frames and up in our hallway upstairs!

Lesson learned here, do not be afraid to step out of the norm and take pictures yourself.

The money we saved, and the memories we made –

It was a picture perfect day.

What did we use to achieve this? Our recent Amazon purchases that we are loving!

Our Camera

Our Remote Shutter Release

These two items + an old tri pod allowed us to take these pictures all on our own! I have used this camera for months and am smitten with my pictures I get.  And the remote shutter release is a little hand-held button that helps you snap the picture from a distance when your camera and tri pod are set up! Genius!

Our Halloween Decor + A Wayfair Contest!

Our Halloween Decor + A Wayfair Contest!

This is a sponsored post thanks to Wayfair!    All thoughts, opinions, & ideas are my own.  Thank you to Wayfair for sponsoring this post + thanks to my readers for supporting our blog!

Halloween is just days away!

Hard to believe, because we all know after Halloween the holiday season comes rolling in full steam ahead!

Halloween with the kids is so exciting – the costumes, the candy, the pumpkin carving.  We try to focus less on the scary aspects of the holiday and lighten it up as much as possible for our little ones!

When it comes to Halloween decor the options are endless – At the same time, it can be hard to find the right kind of decor to put in your house that can be fun – not frightening for kids!

When Wayfair contacted me to join in on the fun of sharing pictures of our Halloween decor I was thrilled and stumped all at the same time.  Usually our decor for Halloween stops at carved pumpkins on our front porch.  This year, we wanted to bring the outside in and take advantage of the awesome fireplace we have in our family room.

Wayfair has a Shop The Look page that is packed full of ideas for every room imaginable.  Now Wayfair is adding a seasonal decor section and would like for YOU to submit pictures of your Halloween decor for a chance to win a $500 gift card!

So let’s join in on the fun shall we?  Here is our Halloween fireplace makeover!

An adorable chalk banner that I wrote “Trick or Treat” on

Simple bat wall decals and two felt spooky houses to add to pictures frames took our plain jane fireplace into a fabulous Halloween haven.

I love these bats.  The kids loved helping me hang them up!

Not sure which picture I will submit yet!
